Snack Idea: Life Savers Instructions: Give each child two small packs of Life Savers…one to eat and one to send to a friend along with a card with the Life Saver story. Application: Use the Life Saver story to tell your children the salvation message. Parent’s Prayer:
“Dear Lord, please guide my words today as I share the Good News with my children…that You gave Your one and only Son to pay the price for our sins. He took our place…my place…so that we would live. Oh, how He loved us! Please give me the passion to tell His story. I pray the Holy Spirit would give them the desire to ask Jesus to be their Lord and Savior!” _______________________________________________________________ 7B. A Debt Paid
Chapters 14-15 (pages 165-182) Lucy and Susan sat watching what was happening at the Stone Table in absolute horror. They did not understand why Aslan did not raise his big paws and defend himself from the evil creatures that were trying him to the great Table. These creatures were even cutting off all of his curly mane and then calling him a big pussycat while kicking him and spitting on him. Still Aslan did not defend himself. Finally there were enough ropes tied around the great Lion and everyone tired of teasing him. Then the White Witch raised her knife and killed him as he quietly looked up at the sky. When Aslan was dead she and her evil army left the Stone Table headed for the camp where the four children and their new friends were. This was the battle that Aslan was preparing Peter for. Meanwhile, back in their hiding place, Lucy and Susan sat crying. They came out from behind the bushes after the Witch left and tried to untie the ropes that bound Aslan, but they could not. Suddenly hundreds of little mice came out from the tall grass and nibbled away at every single rope until they were all gone. Still the great Aslan laid there. When the dawn of early morning came the girls felt cold so they started to walk back to their camp. A huge cracking noise from behind them startled them and they turned to see the Stone Table had cracked into two pieces and that Aslan himself was standing beside it…complete with a full mane! Aslan quickly explained to the girls that the White Witch was right about the Deep Magic which said that she had the right to have a blood sacrifice for Edmund’s sin, but there was a deeper magic which she did not know. It says that if a willing victim who had committed no treachery was sacrificed instead of the traitor, the Table would crack and Death itself would start working backward. Now Aslan told the two sisters to climb upon his back for he had much to do to defeat the White Witch and her evil ways.
_______________________________________________________________ Lesson 7C: Visit with the Professor: Life Saver Story Professor’s Instructions: Here is a great way to present the Plan of Salvation to kids! It is a large roll of Life Savers! Below are the directions for making a large Life Saver pack as well as a mini-script for the lesson preparation. As you go through the lesson, have your kids fill in the blanks in their Travel Logs. Also, as a reminder of the “Life Saver Story,” you may want to give each of your children a small Life Saver candy roll so they can share the story (and candy) with a friend. Instructions for making a large Life Saver roll:Supplies:
Five styrofoam wreaths
Spray paint: Red, Yellow, Green, & Orange
Construction paper: Red, White, Yellow, Green, & Orange
Large heavy aluminum foil
The words “Life Savers” - Spray paint four of the styrofoam wreaths…one of each color.
- Put the give “Life Savers” in the following order then cover them with large heavy aluminum foil so that it makes a tight roll: Red, White, Yellow, Green & Orange
- Cut the construction paper in 2″ strips. Glue (or tape) them onto the aluminum foil roll in the same order that the “Life Savers” are. Be sure the aluminum foil is showing on either end of the roll and the paper strips overlap in such a way that each color shows.
- Glue (or tape) the words “Life Savers” onto the roll.
Hold the Life Saver pack behind your back or hide it. Follow the script that starts below. Choose one or two verses listed below each color to emphasize. (If you have older kids, you may choose to give them a Bible verse to look up as you start the lesson so that when you reveal each color, they can read the references.) As you unwrap the Life Saver, be sure to pull out the colors in the order they are given in the script. (That is why it is important for your paper strips in the outside of the roll match the order of the styrofoam wreaths in the inside.) If you would like, ask your kids to guess what each of the colors stand for. It will be fun to see what they come up for the color orange! “Life Saver Story” Hey kids! Can you think of some things that are used to save a person’s life? ( Let them name some things.) Do you think this pack of Life Savers can save your life? No? Well, let’s see! Do you see the foil and the paper that is wrapped around this? It is DARK…just like the sin that is in our lives before Jesus enters our hearts. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23 “But the way of the wicked is deep darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble.” Proverbs 4:19 “This is the message we heard from him and declare to you; God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.” 1 John 1:5 Let’s look at this Life Saver pack more closely and see how Jesus can take away the DARKNESS in our lives. The first color is RED. What do you think this color stands for? (Let them guess.) It stands for the blood of Jesus that he shed for you and me. With is blood he paid the price for our sins…just like Aslan paid the price for Edmund’s sins in our story today. “For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried; that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.” 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 “Jesus said to him, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6 “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 “We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.” Isaiah 53:6 “But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.” 1 John 1:7 “In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.” Hebrews 9:22 The next color is WHITE. What do you think this color stands for? (Let them guess.) It is for the cleansing of all our sins on Calvary. Not just the little sins, but for all our sins. “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not of yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9 “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 “Yet to all who have received Him, to hose who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.” John 1:12 “But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.” 1 John 1:7 Next is YELLOW. What do you think this color stands for? (Let them guess.) It represents the streets of gold that are in Heaven. “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:1 “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” John 10:10b “The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate made of a single pearl. The great street of the city was of pure gold, like transparent glass.” Revelation 21:21 “You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.” Psalm 16:11 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father’s house there are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you may be where I am.” John 14:1-3 GREEN is the next color in our pack of Life Savers. It stands for growing. God created all living things to grow…the grass, the trees, the animals and us. Not only do people grow physically, but we also grow on the inside such as mentally and spiritually. As God’s children, he wants each of us to grow as a Christian. “Yet to all who have received Him, to hose who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.” John 1:12 “You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.” Galatians 3:26 “But grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen” 2 Peter 3:18 You know, you were right! This pack of Life Savers can’t save your life. But there is someone who can! His name is Jesus! Jesus died on the cross to pay for all the wrong things we have done. The good news is that he rose from the grave and went to Heaven to prepare a place for us when we die. Let me ask you a question: Can Jesus be kept out of Heaven? No.If Jesus is in your heart and life, can you be kept out of Heaven? No. Would you like to ask Jesus into your heart? If your answer is “Yes,” let’s pray this prayer together: “Dear Jesus,
I am sorry for all the wrong things I have done. Thank you for dying on the cross to pay for my sins, raising from the dead and going to Heaven to prepare a place for me when I die. Amen” Oh, you say there is another Life Saver in the pack? It’s ORANGE! Can you guess what this color stands for? (Let them guess.) “ORANGE” you glad you are saved and Jesus is in your heart? _______________________________________________________________ 7D. Bible Memory Game: Bible Verse Hopscotch Supplies: - Write/Type up the instructions for each team of two kids
- Sidewalk chalk (Masking tape & 3×5 cards if played indoors)
- Small stones (Bean bags if played indoors)
Game Set-Up: Copy the hopscotch pattern with the Bible verse in each square as shown using sidewalk chalk outside or masking tape & 3 x 5 cards inside. Note: There are two different hopscotch patterns below. One for those from Pre-K to second grade and one for third grade on up. Instructions: - The first player throws his stone (or bean bag) into the first square.
- Player hops on one foot over this square into the second square, third square, two feet at the same time with one in square 4 and square 5, etc. until he or she has gone up, then down the hopscotch pattern. When he or she arrives back into square 2, the player picks up his or her stone (or bean bag) from the first square while standing on one foot, then hops into the square.
- The player continues his or her turn by throwing his or her stone into the second square and hops up and down the pattern. His or her turn is up if his or her stone or hop is not in the correct square.
*As each player hops over or in each square, he or she is to say the part of the Bible verse written there!
